Troubleshooting, purchases and local files

Find the next step when a file will not open, a shared item is missing or Full Access needs restoring.

For Pin My File 1.1 · iPhone · iOS 17 or later

A file will not open

First try the original in Apple’s Files app. Pin My File uses Apple’s Quick Look to preview supported formats, so not every file type has a preview. If the original works but the pinned copy does not, use Replace File to import a fresh copy.

For a cloud file, make sure the download has finished before importing. A web link can require internet even though the link file is stored locally.

Pin My File is missing from Share

Look under More in the system Share menu’s row of apps. If it is still missing, try sharing the downloaded file from Files. Some apps share a web link or a content type that the extension cannot accept.

After saving through Share, open Pin My File yourself to see the new copy.

Restore Full Access

  1. Check that the iPhone is signed in to the Apple Account used for the purchase.
  2. Open Pin My File and tap a locked slot to open Full access.
  3. Tap Restore purchases and complete any Apple sign-in prompt.

You need a network connection to load purchase information or restore a purchase. If the price is unavailable, try Try loading price again in the purchase screen. Apple processes the transaction; do not buy again just to troubleshoot.

Arranging is not working

Arranging requires version 1.1 or later and Full Access. Enter Arrange Files from a file’s options menu, or long-press until the files jiggle, release your finger, then drag. The arranging guide explains moving and swapping.

Storage limits and safe removal

The maximum file size is 512 MB and the app’s total local file limit is 2 GB. Large clipboard payloads have a lower 64 MB limit; for a large item, save it to Files and import the file instead.

Pin My File is not a sync or backup service. Keep an extra copy of important documents. Removing a pinned file deletes the app’s copy; deleting the app removes its local files. A photo or scan made in the app may have no other copy unless you save it elsewhere.
